What have we been up to??

What have we been doing since being back in Atlanta since the Honeymoon you may ask. Let me show you what we have been doing.....

we have been ATTEMPTING to paint our basement...... I forgot to take a before picture, but here you can see the new gray and the old "yellowish" color.

Here you can see one of the many places where we failed miserably .. and painted the carpet too!

Here you can see where we got quite messy. No, we were not planning on painting the ceiling, but when you don't take your time and end up accidentally painting parts of the ceiling where the wall meets the ceiling, you then open a WHOOOOOOOOLE new can of worms...

more ceiling painted, and our "excuse" for the poor paint job. we have some REALLY weird cut and shaped walls in the basement.

Evan has been doing "yard work" - he will kill me for taking and posting this picture, he had no idea I saw him outside working and went onto the patio and captured the moment. If you know Evan very well, you know this is a big deal, and definitely documentable!! :)

He reattached the gate, which was off the hinges entirely and leaning against the fence when we moved in, and he started the process of digging out under where the gate goes, so that it can swing easily.

Andddddddd, we (I) have been interviewing / meeting with / getting quotes / negotiating prices from painters to clean up the catastrophic mess we made in the basement. When we had the house remodeled the contractor was giving us a complete run around about painting the plantation shutters that came with the house, and basically said they didn't want to do that work, and it would be VERY expensive. Since the painters are already at the house, we decided to get the shutters quoted. They have to be sprayed, and it is a four step process. two times (with drying time in between each time) on each side, so four step process per shutter. Luckily i was able to negotiate with the painter and got it down to a reasonable price for them to remove all the shutters, paint them in the garage and reinstall them and now they wont be dingy and scratched up all over our house!

Ever since the contractors painted the house, the color of our living room has bothered me HUGELY. I have been happy with every other color in the house, but for whatever reason with the color of the living room sitting next to the kitchen color as you can see in this pictures, it looks like a baby blue room and not a gray room. Since the painters are here, it was virtually no difference for them to paint just the walls and not even the trim or anything since it was just done, so we decided to go ahead with it. They would have charged us significantly more if they had come out for just that paint job, but it is a small room and we were getting the other things done so he is basically just throwing it in. We tested paint colors on the wall this time before moving forward with painting the entire room. The contractor painted the house when we were out of town last time or else I would have stepped in! We are going for the color to the left of the column on the top portion, which is the same color tested between the door and window. We don't have a single shutter or curtain or covering on any of the windows while they are being painted (as you can tell in the picture). Its sort of a weird feeling, and there are the parts of the house where people outside could see straight through our house. Its a bit of an weird feeling, but also a very open and airy feeling! They tell me they will have the shutters back on the windows and out of the garage before we leave for Nebraska on Thursday morning so that I can leave my car in the garage while we are out of town. The chances of my car smelling STRONGLY of paint fumes however have not been mentioned! :)
